Managing charitable contributions in India has undergone a massive regulatory overhaul. Paper receipt slips and unnumbered cash bahi-khatas are no longer sufficient. Under updated Income Tax guidelines, charitable trusts and NGOs must maintain accurate donor records (PAN/Aadhaar) and submit an annual Form 10BD statement to ensure donors receive their tax deduction in Form 26AS/AIS.

The Core Rule: To claim a 50% or 100% tax deduction under Section 80G, the donor's ID (PAN or Aadhaar) and sequential donation receipt must be systematically logged and reported in Form 10BD by May 31st annually.

Why Paper Donation Receipt Books Fail Modern Trusts

Many religious and charitable institutions still rely on manual triplicate receipt pads. Here is why this creates serious administrative vulnerabilities:

How to Record a Donation in DAM (Step-by-Step)

Open the DAM app, tap the search bar (or ⌘K on web) and type donation. First time, pick Add Donation Book to set up your receipt book.

  1. In Add Donation Book, set the book name, a receipt prefix and starting number, and the heading/message printed on the receipt. Save it once.
  2. Open the donation book and start a new donation. Select or add the donor (with phone and, for 80G, their PAN and address).
  3. Enter the amount and split it across payment modes: Cash, UPI, Cheque or Bank. Leave a part unpaid if it is a pledge, and it stays on the donor's ledger.
  4. Turn on Send to WhatsApp and save. DAM issues the receipt as a PDF and delivers it to the donor.
  5. At year-end, export the donor register (amounts, receipt IDs and donor details) for your CA to file Form 10BD.
