Modern Indian shop owners and traders collect money across multiple channels every hour: physical cash in the counter drawer (Galla), direct UPI payments on Google Pay/PhonePe, NEFT/RTGS transfers in the Current Account, and card swipes. When you make vendor payouts, pay rent, or withdraw cash for petty expenses, money constantly moves across these buckets.
The Core Principle: Separate the transaction of selling (Invoice) from the movement of money (Payment In / Payment Out). This ensures your party ledger and your bank/cash balances always match down to the exact rupee.
The 3 Key Money Movements in Small Businesses
1. Payment In (Customer Dues & Direct Receipts)
When a customer pays off an old credit balance or sends a cheque, record a Payment In entry. Select the party, enter the amount, and choose the destination account (e.g. HDFC Current Account or Counter Cash). DAM updates the customer's balance and increments your account ledger instantly.
2. Payment Out (Supplier Payouts & Operational Expenses)
Whether paying a raw material distributor, shop electricity bill, or staff salary, record a Payment Out. This ensures money leaving your business is attributed to a specific party or expense category.
3. Intra-Account Transfers (Contra Entries)
When you deposit ₹20,000 cash from your shop drawer into your SBI Current Account, or withdraw cash from an ATM, use Transfer Between Accounts. This moves funds between your accounts without affecting your sales revenue or profit and loss.

How to Tally Your Daily Cash in Hand in DAM
In the DAM app, use the search bar (or ⌘K on web) to reach each action by typing the name in bold. Add your bank accounts once with Add Ledger so cash, bank and UPI stay separate.
- Record money coming in with Receive Money and money going out with Pay Money, choosing Cash, Bank or UPI each time.
- Cash sales and cash Receive Money entries add to the drawer; cash Pay Money entries (chai, courier, small repairs) deduct from it.
- Non-business money moves like owner drawings or a bank deposit go through Record Income / Record Expense or a Journal Entry, so the right account is hit.
- At closing time, compare the physical cash in your drawer with DAM's live Cash in Hand, and each bank balance with its passbook. Zero discrepancies.
